I like the idea of renewal, resolutions, conscious decisions to change. I've been reflecting on how my energy, time, and mind are used by others and I have a new resolution moving forward:

I will no longer be audience to someone who wants to rant and rave but denies their own emotional state as well as mine.




Men in my life are particularly prone to this behavior and I'm, to be frank, done with it. I am always available to listen to someone when they need to talk but they need to bring emotional awareness to the table with them or at the very very least take it to heart when I discuss emotional states. I am very tired of people ranting or yelling at me about something that happened between them and someone else and then denying that they are frustrated when I say things like "That sounds incredibly frustrating."

Why are we talking? I am no longer here to be your living rant journal. You are not free to interject on my time just to behave like this. Now I need to learn how to better navigate that boundary because I don't want to shut down another person or dismiss them but I really do need to protect my own peace of mind and to be blunt I'm tired of emotionally immature people behaving like assholes.
